Following the gale of defections rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) across its ranks and strongholds, Public Affairs Analyst, Ibrahim Adeyanju, has expressed concern over the development.
Speaking on the news panorama segment of Royal FM Morning Mix, Adeyanju warned that the trend of mass defections could steer Nigeria towards a single-party system, a move he described as unhealthy given the country’s ethno-religious diversity, tribal dynamics, and large population.
He further noted that the masses are complicit, blindly following political parties out of hunger and self-interest while sidelining the essence of good governance.
Similarly, Policy and Political Analyst, Tajudeen Habeeb Omotosho, condemned the lack of political ideology among Nigerian politicians, stressing that most defections are driven by fear of weak prospects ahead of the 2027 elections.
Omotosho further lamented that Nigeria’s political space now yearns for a new party that can redefine true democracy and act as a credible watchdog over the ruling party.
