Ilorin Cleric Urges Muslims to Prepare for Hajj with Sincerity and Knowledge

As the Hajj season draws near, worshippers have been urged to prepare for the spiritual journey with sincerity, proper understanding of the rites, and fear of Allah. This call was made by Engr. Abdulyassar Remilekun during his Friday sermon at Hilal Mosque, Ilorin, themed “Preparing for Hajj in Islam.”

Delivering the sermon on the 5th of Dhul Qa’ada, 1446 AH (2nd of May, 2025), the Imam emphasized the importance of Hajj as the fifth pillar of Islam, citing verses from the Qur’an and Hadiths of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) to stress its obligation on all Muslims who possess the financial, physical, and logistical capacity.

“Hajj is a once-in-a-lifetime obligation for those who are able. Anyone with the means, but refuses to embark on the journey, risks missing a critical act of worship,” the cleric stated, referencing the sayings of both Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and Sayyiduna Ali (KW).

He cautioned against ignorance of Hajj rites, urging intending pilgrims to seek guidance from knowledgeable scholars or designated guides to ensure their pilgrimage is valid and accepted by Allah. Quoting from the Qur’an, he said, “The best provision for the journey is the fear of Allah.”

The sermon also addressed the dangers of trivializing religious matters. Engr. Remilekun condemned a recent viral social media audio that falsely depicted a benefactor demanding the return of pilgrims’ garments after sponsoring their Hajj. He described such content as blasphemous and warned against using religion for amusement.

“Those who turn religion into entertainment are warned in the Qur’an. Such actions not only mislead others but may also deter genuine acts of kindness,” he warned.

He concluded with prayers for the safety and acceptance of all intending pilgrims’ Hajj, the forgiveness of past pilgrims, and peace for Nigeria and all Muslim nations.

The sermon served as a spiritual reminder and a call to responsible conduct as Muslims across the world prepare for the 2025 Hajj season.
