The Kwara State Government has revealed that it has made significant progress in strengthening education and human capital development across the state.
Speaking at Tuesday’s third quarter Inter-Ministerial Press Briefing organised by the Ministry of Communications in Ilorin, the Honourable Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olalekan Olohungbebe, said the ministry conducted an extensive needs assessment of 235 schools, including the state’s four major technical colleges.
He explained that the assessment helped identify gaps in infrastructure and resources, while nomadic schools across the state were also reviewed to understand their specific challenges.
According to the Commissioner, several schools, such as ECWA Secondary School in Omu-Aran, Government Secondary School in Baba Nla, and Army Day Secondary School in Ilorin, have benefited from new boreholes, toilets, classrooms, laboratories, and halls.
Dr. Olohungbebe also revealed new initiatives, including the introduction of online registration for placement exams, ICT collaborations for digital training, and the training of 350 teachers on the use of Artificial Intelligence in teaching.
The ministry has also begun mapping Arabic schools across the state, registering over 13,000 so far, and introduced a uniform pep talk across schools to promote shared values.
