The Kwara State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, has unveiled key initiatives undertaken by the AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq-led administration to advance tertiary education and empower youths across the state.
Speaking on Wednesday during Day 2 of the 2025 First Quarter Inter-ministerial Press Briefing in Ilorin, the commissioner disclosed that 200 youths recently graduated from Batch 8 of the Youth Empowerment and Employment Generation Scheme at the International Vocational, Technical & Entrepreneurship College (IVTEC), Ajase-Ipo. The beneficiaries received certifications, work tools, and placements with small and medium-scale enterprises for practical training.
She also announced that the Kwara State College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies (CAILS), Ilorin, secured full and partial accreditation for six National Diploma programs. The institution has also installed a 3,300kva transformer and is constructing new hostel facilities to enhance student welfare and generate internal revenue.
Further upgrades at CAILS include a one-year free WiFi subscription and e-learning support provided by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), along with the resumption of the college’s official bulletin.
Hajia Kawu confirmed that the newly established Kwara State University of Education (KWASUED) is now listed on the JAMB portal, accredited to offer 20 academic programs, and has commenced student admissions.
In the aviation sector, the International Aviation College, Ilorin, celebrated the graduation of 19 pilots—10 military and 9 civilian. The state government also sponsored the overseas training of full aircraft engineers and a flight instructor in South Africa, in addition to funding the procurement of critical aircraft spare parts.
At the Kwara State Polytechnic, a long-abandoned 1,000-capacity multipurpose auditorium has been completed. The polytechnic also received grants for the accreditation and reaccreditation of several programs. With support from TETFUND and internal funding, the institution renovated previously neglected student hostels.
New academic offerings have been introduced at the polytechnic, including programs in Railway Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Microfinance. Additionally, the school secured approval and accreditation for a Higher National Diploma (HND) program in Mass Communication.
