The Kwara State University Teaching Hospital (KWASUTH) in Ilorin has announced plans for a mass burial of unclaimed bodies in its mortuary due to severe overcrowding.
The hospital’s management revealed in a statement on Sunday that the facility is beyond capacity, with no available space for additional corpses.
Head of the hospital’s Corporate Affairs Unit, Yakubu Kamaldeen Aliagan, urged the public to collect the bodies of their relatives within the next two weeks, as after this period, the hospital will proceed with the mass burial to alleviate the congestion.
The management emphasized the importance of retrieving unclaimed bodies to prevent further strain on the mortuary, which has been overwhelmed by the number of abandoned corpses.
