A Non-Governmental Organisation, the Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria, has raised concern over an audio recording circulating on social media, which it says contains threats against certain citizens based on religious affiliation.
In a statement issued in Ilorin and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Yusuf Agbabiaka, the group said the content of the audio, allegedly released by an individual identified as Maazi Kanayo, poses a potential security risk and should be urgently investigated by relevant authorities.
The organisation said the recording, which it described as dangerous and inflammatory, has been circulating online for over a week, and warned that such messages could heighten tension and threaten peaceful coexistence if not promptly addressed.
The group called on security agencies, including the Nigeria Police, the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and military intelligence units, to provide the public with updates on steps being taken to investigate the matter and prevent any breakdown of law and order.
According to the statement, the audio violates constitutional provisions guaranteeing freedom of religion and peaceful co-existence, adding that no citizen should be threatened or targeted because of personal beliefs.
