NEMA Activates Emergency Operations Centre to Combat 2025 Flood Threat

The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, has reactivated its National Emergency Operations Centre to manage and mitigate the impact of the 2025 flood crisis across the country.

The multi-stakeholder centre is now fully operational, with responsibilities that include monitoring flood situations, coordinating resources, and deploying emergency response efforts in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The centre’s work began over the weekend with the Mokwa flood disaster in Niger State, with NEMA reporting that 151 bodies have been recovered so far.

To address the crisis, NEMA’s Rescue and Operations Team has been actively searching for missing persons and providing relief to affected families.

To prevent water-borne diseases, NEMA has also deployed mobile water purification units and other hygiene interventions to provide clean water in the affected areas.
