The Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu, has praised the University of Ilorin for its achievements in innovation, research, and funding, noting that the institution has attracted over ₦12 billion in grants from national and international partners in the last two years.
Delivering a goodwill message at the university’s 40th Convocation Ceremony on Thursday, October 23, 2025, Prof. Ribadu, represented by the Vice Chancellor of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, Prof. Lateef Folorunsho Oladimeji, congratulated the institution on its milestone convocation, which coincides with its Golden Jubilee celebration, describing it as “a significant period in the life of any institution.”
He lauded the University of Ilorin’s consistent record of excellence and its commitment to fostering critical thinking, scholarship, and intellectual curiosity. He added that its graduates “have excelled in diverse professions” and are contributing to national development.
The NUC boss particularly commended the university’s digital transformation and the effective utilisation of TETFund’s ₦1 billion worth of equipment for its Innovation Hub, calling them “commendable strides that reflect the institution’s commitment to innovation.”
Ribadu reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to maintaining quality assurance and regulatory oversight across Nigerian universities. “We will continue to monitor their operations and ensure full compliance with regulatory and quality assurance standards, so that all stakeholders derive maximum value from their investment in higher education,” he said.
