Obi Raises Alarm Over Insecurity in Borno, Urges Urgent Federal Action

Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, has raised concerns over the worsening security situation in Borno State, especially in the Marte area.

In a post on his X handle today, Obi described the situation as “very unsettling” and called on the Federal Government to urgently send reinforcements to support the troops on the ground.

He commended Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, for showing courageous leadership by not only visiting but also spending the night with residents in the conflict-hit area.

The former Anambra governor stressed that what’s happening in Marte is a national concern, noting that over 300 communities are at risk and more than 20,000 people have already been displaced.

Obi urged the federal government to respond swiftly and decisively, saying that if Borno is not protected, the very idea of Nigeria is under threat.
