President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced that the University of Ilorin will host one of the National Universities Commission’s (NUC) Digital Innovation Hubs, aimed at promoting research, digital skills, and enterprise incubation across Nigerian universities.
Speaking at the 40th Convocation Ceremony of the University of Ilorin on Thursday, through his representative, Prof. Temidayo Oladiji, Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, the President congratulated the university on its achievements and upcoming 50th anniversary, describing it as “a beacon of academic excellence and discipline.”
He said the hub will position Ilorin as a leading centre for innovation in Nigeria’s knowledge economy. “This flagship project is designed to harness the ingenuity, creativity, and entrepreneurial potential of our youths not only within this University but also across neighbouring institutions in Kwara State and beyond.”
The President also revealed that the University of Ilorin is among 18 institutions benefiting from the ₦110 billion national intervention for expanding medical training facilities to produce more healthcare professionals for national service.
Tinubu praised the institution’sefforts in agricultural research and enterprise, urging it to “fully participate in the Federal Government’s Livestock Development Initiatives, the Green Money Project, and the CNG School Bus Scheme.”
The President further noted efforts to maintain stability in the academic system, revealing that the Federal Government has paid earned allowances and part of the previously withheld salaries of academic and non-teaching staff.
Meanwhile, Tinubu also acknowledging current economic challenges in the country, calling for patience. “Our nation is undergoing profound economic reforms designed to restore stability, unlock productivity, and secure a prosperous future. I acknowledge the temporary hardships Nigerians face today, but I assure you these challenges are short-lived,” he said.
