Public affairs analyst Charles Bamidele has voiced his concern over the alleged ₦71 billion fraud scandal involving the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).
Bamidele criticized the explanation provided by NELFUND’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Akintunde Sawyerr, describing it as insufficient and unreliable. He urged the agency to release a detailed breakdown of the fund’s usage to the public to ensure genuine transparency.
Speaking during the News Panorama segment on Royal FM Morning Mix Ilorin, Bamidele condemned what he described as the incompetence of NELFUND. He further stated that many federal government policies intended to benefit Nigerians are often hijacked by unscrupulous elements.
While decrying the poor level of transparency and accountability in the loan documentation process, the analyst noted that although there is no concrete evidence that the funds are missing until a forensic audit is conducted, NELFUND must provide accurate and verifiable information to support its claims.
