The Nigerian Senate has passed a unanimous vote of confidence in its President, Senator Godswill Akpabio.
The motion was moved during today’s plenary by Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele and seconded by Deputy Minority Leader Olalere Oyewumi.
This show of support comes just 48 hours after suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan alleged at the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in New York that she was suspended for raising concerns about sexual harassment involving Akpabio.
However, with the matter now before the court, the Senate has urged Nigerians to focus on due process rather than distractions.
