Senate Urges Military Redeployment to Borno, Yobe After Boko Haram Resurgence

The Senate today called for the urgent redeployment of military personnel and advanced equipment to Borno and Yobe states following renewed attacks by Boko Haram terrorists in the North-East.

The resolution came after reports of escalating violence, including the killing of over a dozen soldiers in Marte town, Monguno Local Government Area, on May 12, and a subsequent attack early today on Gajiram, the headquarters of Nganzai LGA.

The motion, raised by Senate Chief Whip Tahir Munguno, highlighted that although two-thirds of Borno State’s local government areas were once under Boko Haram control, collaborative operations between the Nigerian military and the Civilian Joint Task Force had reclaimed those territories. Lawmakers emphasized the need to protect these gains by reinforcing security in the region.

Meanwhile, Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, has strongly condemned the recent wave of attacks carried out by Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Dauda Iliya, Governor Zulum reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working with the Federal Government, military, and other security agencies to address the ongoing security challenges.
