The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) has called on newly inducted teachers to approach their classrooms with renewed purpose by integrating technology, maintaining professional ethics, and committing to continuous learning as the nation’s education sector evolves.
Speaking at the 3rd TRCN Professional Induction Ceremony, Award of Honours, and Faculty Magazine Launch at Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, Dr. (Mrs.) Ronke Soyombo, TRCN Registrar/Chief Executive, represented by Dr. Magaji Waziri, highlighted the critical role teachers play in shaping the future of education in Nigeria.
“The teacher is the most important element in every educational process,” he said. “Our children’s future depends on how well you carry out this responsibility.”
He stressed that modern teaching requires a strong combination of subject expertise and digital proficiency, pointing out that technology is now central to effective learning. “In today’s world, you cannot afford to ignore technology. Every teacher must become a technology advocate if we truly want to prepare our learners for excellence,” he stated.
Referring to the National Policy on Education, he reminded the inductees that teacher training, creativity, inquiry-based learning, and professional conduct are key pillars that uphold teaching as a respected career. “This ceremony is not just about receiving certificates. You are joining a professional community, and you must uphold the integrity of the profession wherever you go,” he added.
He also praised Al-Hikmah University for upholding high academic standards and producing graduates who meet TRCN requirements, reaffirming the Council’s commitment to ensuring professional teaching standards nationwide. “Only qualified, competent and professionally certified individuals must have access to teach in our schools,” he stressed.
While urging the graduates to represent both the university and the teaching profession with dignity, he reminded them that their conduct reflects not only on themselves but also on the institution and the nation. “From today, you are part of a noble profession. Stand firm, uphold the ethics and contribute meaningfully to national development,” he concluded.
